Your Part in the Great Commission

I will never forget the conviction I felt when I heard a preacher say something like, “If you aren’t reaching others for the Lord, why are you here?”

I was so convicted that I started calling family members to ask them if they were saved. But before I could pick up the phone, I had to find the both the courage and the words.

What about you? Are you ready to witness?

Did you know that the Great Commission was aimed at all of us?

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28:19

We are supposed to go and tell, but many believers simply don’t do that. Either they do not understand that the Great Commission was for all us, or they just don’t know what to say.

As believers are equipped for service, they need to be made aware of the Great Commission. I sat in church for years and missed it. It is easy to send money, and that is a part of it. However, Jesus intends to use you not just your money. Unless everyone you talk to day in and day out is already saved, you are standing in the middle of a missions field, and it’s up to you to work it.

There are several things you can do to prepare for those opportunities God is sending your way.

Grow your faith. Strong faith can be a testimony itself, and it often brings opportunities to witness. As you grow your faith, you will become sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. He will give you opportunities to reach out.

Put together your testimony so that you are prepared. If you prepare it in advance, it will be easier for you to share it. Include how and when you were saved. Include what God has done for you. Include how He helps you each day. Don’t lift up Satan, but include some of the changes God has enabled you to make in your life as you made Jesus Lord.

Be able to give a clear presentation of the Gospel.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
1 Peter 3:15-16

Pray as you are preparing yourself to be able to share the Gospel, and ask God to bring you those opportunities. Rely on the Holy Spirit for the strength and power to be a witness. Be sensitive to His leading.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 3:16-17

Today’s challenge is to start reaching out even more to those around you. You may be the only Christian in their life. You may be their last opportunity to hear about Jesus. No one is promised tomorrow.
