Have you ever felt like you have done something so bad that God could not possibly forgive you? Do you think there is no point in asking Jesus to save you because you think you are not savable?
No matter what you have done, you can be forgiven. Jesus paid for that sin too. There is only one sin that is not forgivable, and you’ve not done it.
The unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. Scripture gives us the following example.
And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Mark 3:22-30
Jesus was casting out devils by the power of God. They tried to say that these miracles of the Holy Ghost were from Satan. To deny such an obvious thing, or to say it was evil or Jesus was evil was an outright attack on the Holy Ghost. It was meant to undermine His work.
This is a hard passage, but every footnote or commentary I have read over the years, and every preacher I have heard mention this subject have said that this is no longer possible. They say either the circumstances are not possible, or true believers would not accuse Jesus like this. Ultimately the only way to not be forgiven is to reject Jesus all the way to death, and die lost.
I have read and heard folks say terrible things about our Lord. What they say breaks my heart to hear them say it. It also heart breaking that their hearts are so hardened. Sometimes they are so very arrogant. They speak as if they will be equal to God when they meet Him. Unless they change, they will die lost. The door to Salvation will be closed.
If you know anyone like this, pray for them. Let them see Jesus in you. You won’t convince them with a fact-based argument because it is a matter of faith, but be ready if they do have a question. Keep sowing the Word. Keep giving them scripture as the Lord leads you.
LIFE APPLICATION
Key Focal Verse:
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Revelation 4:11
Today’s challenge is to really understand that Jesus died for ALL your sins, but that is not a license to go out and sin intentionally. If you have been afraid that you cannot accept Jesus as your Savior because something you did was just too awful, that is not the case at all. He will forgive you when you repent.
