I got the dreaded “wait and see” answer from my dentist. That is the one answer I have always found hard to swallow. I want to know everything now because that is easier for me than waiting.
What about you?
I had already put off going to see about that tooth I hit for 2 months. The only real consolation about his “wait and see” answer was that I knew what it wasn’t, I knew what it could become, and I knew there was nothing for me to do at the moment.
I have been such a worrier in the past that this became a test of my faith. I decided that God is able to heal my tooth if He wants to do that. I am not going to waste time worrying about it. It is not God’s will for me to worry about it, and God has other things He wants me doing.
Now, I realize that a tooth is a small thing. Can you imagine the depth of the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego?
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Daniel 3:14-18
We know the rest of the story when it comes to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Jesus was seen in the furnace with them, and they were delivered through it all.
Most challenges in life are somewhere in between a potential root canal and a Nebuchadnezzar. How you choose to handle life’s challenges exhibits what you believe about God. It can be seen in your faith or lack of it.
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 1:16
Perhaps a lack of faith really could be seen as just another type of work that denies Christ. After all, it is often reflected in our behavior.
LIFE APPLICATION
Key Focal Verse:
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
2 Timothy 1:9
Today’s challenge is to look at life as a series of faith tests. Ask God to help you build your faith. Take advantage of every opportunity to give your challenges and your worries over to God. Things may not always work out like you want, but you can be sure that God has it all under control.
