Have you ever stopped to think how God works? Which people do you see Him use? How do you see Him use them? How does He use you?
I will give you a hint. It’s probably not the folks that you or I would choose to use, nor is it in the way you or I would choose to use them or our own abilities for the Lord.
I try to be quick to give God all praise, honor, and glory for any good that comes of my writing. It’s because writing is something that has always been a challenge for me. It’s also definitely not something that I would have chosen to do for God because I have strengths in other areas, and I would have chosen one of those instead. Nevertheless, God has chosen for me to write. I do so with much prayer.
Now consider David and Goliath.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
1 Samuel 17:42
Goliath disdained or belittled David because David was so small compared to Goliath. Being a youth, David found that the armour he was offered encumbered him. He came to face Goliath without it. Hence, Goliath’s attitude was that of, “What do you think you’re going to do?”
And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
1 Samuel 17:49-51
God used little David to defeat big Goliath with a rock. If you remember, He used Gideon’s small army to defeat a huge enemy. He created “fishers of men” from fishermen. God uses the small things, and weak things of this world.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1 Corinthians 1:27-29
When God uses us, He often picks our weaknesses to use that no flesh should glory in his presence. Flesh means us. Be humble, and be sure to always give Him all praise, honor, and glory.
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to look at where God is using you. It just might be where you are the weakest. Or, perhaps you have been reluctant to let God use you in the way that He’d like because you do not feel able. Be encouraged. That’s where God gets the most glory. Embrace what He is doing or wants to do through you. Then give Him all praise honor and glory.
