In 2007, I participated in a prayer walk around a park and the surrounding neighborhood with other ministries that planned to set up in the park on the following Saturday. The following Saturday went well, but God also showed me much during that walk.
Have you ever participated in a prayer walk?
I have heard several amazing stories over the years of the results of a prayer walk. Sometimes the walk was a lot like the walk around Jericho in that they made the trip seven times. Joshua had the people follow God’s directions down to the last detail.
And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets. And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.
Joshua 6:12-16
Notice how God tore down those walls? Wonder what would happen if we all did a prayer walk? As we are walking around our neighborhoods or around our schools or around our churches even, we could pray for the enemy to be defeated.
We could pray for a hedge of protection for our families, our friends, and our neighbors. We could pray for the unborn. We could pray for God to break drug addictions. We could pray for prayer in school and for Bibles to be put back in schools. We could pray for revival.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Whenever I need God desperately – not that there is ever a time I don’t desperately need Him, but when I feel particularly desperate – I pray scripture. If there is a favorite scripture that you have that addresses a particular need, you may want to pray that. God is always faithful!
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to ask God to show you a particular area of your community that you can walk or drive around and pray. Maybe He will show you more than one. Maybe it’s where you live, work, or take your children each day. All you need to do is walk or drive all the way around it and pray for God to minister to those needs. If you are driving, take more than one lap around. Spend a good amount of time in prayer for that need.
As an extra challenge today, see if you can get friends to do a prayer walk or drive also.
