Typically, the more time you spend with someone, the closer you get. If you have been friends for a long time, you may even find yourself finishing each other’s sentences. At the very least, you may come to feel like family.
How close you feel to God and how well you understand His will depends on how much time you spend with Him.
How close was Adam to God? God was ever present in Adam’s life. God spoke light into existence, but not Adam. Adam was special.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
Genesis 2:21-22
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Genesis 3:8
God wants a relationship with us. Down through the generations God has continued to reach out to us.
We know that God spoke to Moses in a burning bush. We know that God made a covenant with Abraham. God gave us scripture, Jesus paid our sin debt, and the Holy Spirit indwells believers.
What else does God need to do for us to come to a point of understanding that He wants a relationship with us? He wants us to do His will, not our own.
Ultimately, those who never accepted Jesus as Savior are doing their own thing. Although they may look like it, they don’t love the Lord. It’s all an act. God is not deceived.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:21-23
To the saved that love the Lord, be encouraged.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Hebrews 10:36
Where is your heart today? Are you saved? How close is your relationship with the Lord?
LIFE APPLICATION
Key Focal Verse:
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:8
Today’s challenge is to look at your walk with the Lord. Can you walk any closer? Can you pray more earnestly? Are you passionate about God and His will? Ask God to reveal to you how He wants you to serve. Look for opportunities to walk in the works He has prepared for you!
