Just listening to all the situations happening all over the world makes me wonder if folks have lost their minds. Nothing seems to make sense any more except perhaps in the light of selfish lusts. Logic has been tossed to the wind in favor of evil. I believe I have heard the phrase “the new morality,” but I think we are experiencing “the new immorality.”
Turn on the world news. You will see pleasure in unrighteousness. What else would you call mobs in the streets who bust windows and loot? The comment was that they did this because their entitlements were cut. What does that have to do with stealing electronics and other nonfood items? These folks were just having pleasure in unrighteousness without even a poor excuse.
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thessalonians 2:6-12
I have been wondering for a while if we are seeing the strong delusion and the first fruits of it. With that in mind, we need to consider our definition of unrighteousness.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
What about those who turn to fables? Isn’t that having pleasure in unrighteousness? Have you asked anyone lately what they believe. Have you discussed Christianity with anyone outside your normal circle? What responses have you gotten?
It seems that nearly everyone that I meet and spend some time talking with has a different theology. How did that happen? People are beginning to take what they like from their lives, and they are creating their own theology. It’s the new version of “If it feels good do it.” In this case, “If it feels good, I believe it to be right.”
In the book of Judges men did what was right in their own eyes because there was no king in Israel. If I’m not mistaken, that line of thinking existed in the days of Noah before the flood, in Sodom, and in Gomorrah. Have we really come to that?
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to ask yourself if we have really come to that? Who do you know that needs to hear a clear presentation of the gospel message? Pray asking God to show you how to be a light to someone today. Don’t be afraid speak up about your faith to those who have created their own. When you believe the truth, you have the Word of God to stand on.
