As the water fell gently from the spray nozzle, the sunlight danced upon the individual streams and revealed a rainbow. Individual bands of red, yellow, and blue could easily be seen in the water just as God sets His rainbow in the sky after it rains.
When’s the last time you thought about that particular promise from God?
And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
Genesis 9:8-17
The great flood was a judgment upon the earth. Many if not all cultures have a story of a flood. It would only make sense that they would. Just as we all go back to Adam and Eve, we all also go back to Noah. Can you imagine what life would be like without that promise? We might all live in fear every time it rained.
God loved us enough to make that promise so that we wouldn’t live in fear. Jesus was also a promise that God made to us. Because of Jesus, whosoever believeth does not need to fear death.
There are a lot of wonderful promises in God’s Word. I would love to know some of your favorites.
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to stand on the promises from God. If you don’t know many scriptures, I challenge you to start a notebook of those that you find encouraging. Write them down as you come across them. Make a note of why they are encouraging to you. Remember them when times are good, but also remember them when times are hard.
One of my favorites I simply refer to as “all things,” and that’s what I tell myself when I need encouragement. ALL THINGS!
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
