Would it surprise you to learn that I talk a lot about the Lord in everyday conversation? Would it surprise you to learn that my business presentations are scripture based?
No? I didn’t think so. If you’ve been listening to my radio segments or reading my blog long at all, you know me. I don’t make any efforts to put a muzzle on my mouth or curb my talk about the Lord no matter where I am.
I hope you are always who God says you are!
When you know someone does not want you to talk about the Lord, it might be tempting to be politically correct. When you pull that apart though, you realize that those folks are not being tolerant of you!
Where the world and people intersect your life, do you stand firm or do you bend? Do you change who you are in Christ to accommodate them? Do you change your vocabulary? Do you change your behavior? Do you tone down your enthusiasm for the Lord?
What does scripture say about our seeking to please men?
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Galatians 1:10-12
Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Luke 6:26
Woe unto you if you change the Gospel. Now, what about the other things we might be tempted to change or do?
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1 John 2:15-16
If you feel you must change the way you serve God to please men, then don’t do it. Serve God the way God would have you to serve. Don’t compromise – don’t surrender the things of God – for man. You really cannot serve both man and God, nor can you stand on the fence post. You see, standing on the fence post is not serving God.
Who will you serve and please today?
LIFE APPLICATION
Key Focal Verse:
I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Psalms 34:1-3
Today’s challenge is to ask God to show you where you are trying to be a pleaser of men. Pray for strength to do what God would have you to do. Pray for the courage to be who God says you are and to be bold for Him. Step out in faith.
