If I were to ask you who you are what would you tell me? Would you tell me facts like the date you were born? Would you tell me where you grew up? Would you tell me where you graduated, and what you do for a living? Would you tell me you have children?
What would you tell me?
Would you tell me you are a Christian? Would you tell me all the things you’ve tripped over in your past? Would you paint yourself as a victim? Would you share what others are doing to you? Would I see problems and challenges? Would I see fear?
What would I see?
Would I see victory? Would I hear stories of what God has done for you? Would I hear how He provided for you? Would I hear how He rained a blessing on you? Would I hear how He led you in making a decision?
Let us consider some of the blessings God has for His children in addition to eternal life.
If you believe God, then your past no longer defines you. God will define you instead.
God has a plan for your life.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10
If you believe God, then you can have confidence.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:13
If you believe God, you can know you are not alone.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5
If you believe God, you can have a guide in life.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psalms 23:2
If you believe God, then you can know who God says you are, and it will be based on the truth. God does not lie.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Titus 1:2
The reason I used the phrase “you can” instead of “you have” in many of the statements I made is that often it is hard to see beyond our circumstances because we get caught in what we can see, hear, touch, and feel. In order to get above that and live victoriously, we must really believe God. We must trust all the promises He has given us.
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2 Corinthians 5:7)
You will find that the degree of spiritual victory you will have over your circumstances, the past, and the present is proportional to the degree you choose to walk by faith.
LIFE APPLICATION
Key Focal Verse:
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Titus 1:2
Today’s challenge is to live like you believe God. When you accept Jesus as your savior, your sin debt is paid. Your past and your sins do not define you. God has a plan for your life. Your past does not have to control you. If you want to be free, really free, you have to believe God. You have to take Him at His Word.
