Are you are afraid to succeed? That might sound like a strange question, but you’d be surprised how many folks are just as much afraid of success as they are of failure.
In business, failure looks like where you are now minus whatever you invested toward going where you wanted to go (but didn’t) with your business. But what does success look like?
Success often looks like uncharted territory. More things to manage and more people to lead often come with success. Your task list may fill up, and there may be more fires to put out. As you move into uncharted territory, decisions must be made about things you have not ever tried before. Who will you go to? How will you decide? What will be required? With so many questions, you may find yourself trying to remember why exactly you wanted to do this new thing.
Here are 5 things to help see you through.
First. Goals are good, but goals should only be set with God. God has the perfect plan. He knows where you need Him to see you through because of your weaknesses.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
John 15:5-8
Without Jesus we cannot do anything anyway. We must abide in Him. He will guide our steps.
Second. Place value in the journey. Let God accomplish through you all that He wills along the way. Ask yourself, did you witness? Did you grow spiritually? Are you really depending on God to guide you every step of the way?
Third. Did you assume too much? What I mean is that sometimes God will give us a direction that He wants us to move, and we assume that He intends to carry us to the logical end. Sometimes God has something He wants to teach us, or He has a direction that He wants to take us that cannot be seen from where we are standing.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
Fourth. Success or not, God will never leave you.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5
Fifth. Redefine success. Part of that verse said, “and be content with such things as ye have.” When you are in the middle of God’s will for you, you really are successful. Success of that kind is perfect. Be content to be where God wants you.
