Peace From God

Have you ever had a day where you had no focus because of the other things that were going on in your life? Perhaps faith had given way and peace had left you. Often what drives our ability to focus on our job, or on anything else, is the ability to let go of self.

I remember times in the past when I became so overwhelmed by circumstances that I could not get anything done because I was trying to resolve something in my head that I could in no way hope to resolve. The situation was not something that depended on me.

The bottom line is I was anxious. The result was a life derailed and on hold. Whatever I really needed to be doing did not get done. It was a complete waste of time.

Recently, God showed me how interfering I can be at times. I had not stopped to think about the reality of God loving other people enough to take care of them and to do what was needed to bring them into a right & closer relationship with Him – including the things I wanted them to avoid experiencing.

We cannot make choices for other folks. We can pray for them. We can talk to them. We can witness to them. In the end, we must let them make their own choices. Sometimes those choices are choices we don’t like. Sometimes, we know the consequences of those choices, and they are hard to watch.

In order to get the things done in life that we need to get done, we must separate what is our responsibility and what is God’s. We must learn to depend more on Him and trust Him when we have shared faithfully. We must learn to find peace through worship in order to keep going in the midst of a storm.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7

We can have peace in a storm.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

Peace is a fruit of the spirit. God controls things; we do not. We need to surrender to that.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7

Sometimes we must endure hard situations either at work or in our personal lives. Sometimes these situations go on for years. Peace is what is needed. Peace comes from communion with God.

What does that look like? It looks like time alone with God. It includes prayer, Bible study, song, and an expecting heart.

We really can come to a point of peace no matter what is going on around us.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30

Today’s challenge is to keep your focus on the things God would have you to do at work and in your personal life. Walk in the works He has prepared for you. Keep your focus there, stay the course, and let God take care of the rest.

Goal:

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Timothy 4:7
