Picking a Candidate

When you go to vote, and you are deciding which candidate to pick, what do you ask yourself? Do you ask yourself which candidate will do what you want them to do? Or do you ask yourself which candidate is best for the United States or your community? Which of those questions do you ask? And what should you be asking yourself?

That was a trick question. The correct answer is neither.

What we should be asking is: which candidate is following God? And which candidate is praying to our God, not just any god, for direction?

Here’s my point. Do we know what is going to happen a year from now? Do we know what is going to happen 4 years from now? Only God knows the answers to those questions, and only He knows what we need to do in those situations. Decisions made without Him are just guesses. If our leaders are not asking direction from God, they’re just guessing also.

I think our choice in leaders is a reflection of how our country, as a whole, views God. If we have leaders who are intentionally sinning against God, then we as a country need revival because we have lost our way.

Please do continue to pray with me for revival.

Remember the promised land?

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
Numbers 13:1-2

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
Numbers 13:17

They went up into the mountain and came back after 40 days. They spoke to Moses, Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
Numbers 13:27-28

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
Numbers 13:30

If you read on into chapter 14, you will see that the people chose not to follow Moses and Aaron. They chose to follow the ungodly advice of the other folks.

And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
Numbers 14:11

Only those folks under 20, Caleb, and Joshua were allowed to enter the promise land. The rest died wandering around in the wilderness across 40 years because of their disobedience.

It only makes sense that we would want to pick leaders that will put God first. Following the ungodly has consequences.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9

Our challenge today is to find out if our candidates are putting God first in their lives – or not. We need to support only the ones that do. I know I want God’s best for our country. I’m sure you do too!
