Have you ever rushed?
A few years back, I was excited about spending some time with my mom and setting up for an event. I tossed everything I could think of that I might need into the back of my van, and off I went to my destination an hour away. Rushing was a mistake.
I got out in the street by 6:30 the next morning. I proceeded to set up, but I was cold. I did not have the walls to my tent, and the wind was blowing. I was cold. I kept going, but I was still cold. By 7:30, I knew that it was going to be a hard day. Although everything was set up, I was sitting in my van at 8. Did I mention that I was cold? Understatement. I was absolutely freezing!
The saving grace that day was Robbie, our oldest son, who was coming to the event. I was able to catch him before he left home, and I got him to bring the walls of the tent. When he strolled up at 10ish walls in hand, I was thrilled.
Whenever I get in a hurry, I forget something, mess something up, leave something undone, or make a decision that is ultimately not the best one.
What happens when our government gets in a hurry? The government is made up of people. It’s the same thing. Mistakes are made. Things are forgotten.
It’s one thing to leave home without the walls to a tent. It’s quite another to try to work our way out of a mess in a hurry and without a guide.
It seems like this country is in a hurry, but we have not stopped to pray about what it is we are in a hurry to do. I have heard few if any of our leaders say that they spent time in prayer for direction. I have heard them say to hurry, hurry, hurry. Don’t read, just vote! Even today, they are in a hurry. Whatever won’t wait.
I don’t care how good something is supposed to be, if you don’t know the details, and you have haven’t prayed about it, you’re better off waiting. You may have the right idea. However, if you are wrong, things really can get worse. We need to be more patient.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
God has the answers this country needs. It’s foolishness to try to go forward without Him. Our Continental Congress used to spend a tremendous amount of time in prayer and Bible study. Perhaps our current leaders should revisit their journals and other records that speak to how important they felt God’s leadership to be.
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to remember that God has the answers. If we want them, we need to seek them from Him. Hurry is not the answer. It never has been, and it never will be. Spend more time in prayer for our country. Continue praying for revival.
