As her smiling face lit up the television screen, she expressed her excitement for being able to now marry her partner. The law was changed, and she had finally gotten her way. She was thrilled.
I was sad for her and others like her.
People tend to look at what should be done in controversial issues in terms of what is fair. In this case, we might want to ask, “Is it fair to prevent 2 folks who care about each other from marrying?” Then, we think about how we would feel if we were not allowed to marry whomever we wanted to marry. Following this route, we may conclude that it is not fair to prevent it.
On the other side of that coin, we may want to say that it is wrong because we are not comfortable with it. We would not do it. We don’t want any change in the norm.
Neither of those is a good argument. We need to look at what God says. Before we even get to the question of marriage, God discusses the homosexual relationship.
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Leviticus 18:22And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
1 Kings 14:24
The punishment told to Israel in the Old Testament was severe to say the least.
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Leviticus 20:13
So what does God think of gay marriage? The previous scripture should have painted the picture, but we will go further.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 2:24
God designed marriage, and it is between a man and a women. My heart breaks for that woman with the smiling face on the television and for others like her. She may have won a victory here, but she’s lost so much more.
My heart also breaks for our country as we take another step into darkness. When we put a seal of approval on something so wrong, we lead folks astray. What is legal ought to be what is right. Today what is legal is not attached to any standard. It obviously sways toward the strongest side of the argument at the moment instead of what is really right.
LIFE APPLICATION
Today’s challenge is to love your neighbor even when you hate their sin. Although the scripture quoted today was from the Old Testament, remember that God does not change. We are not to take it upon ourselves to enact punishment. That needs to be left to the government. However, what God called an abomination is still an abomination.
Pray for revival. Our country needs to turn back to God.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
I try very hard not to beat people up about this subject. If, God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow as His word says then, Leviticus 18:22, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. It Is as true today as it was then. I always remind people that in John 1:1, In the beginning was the word and the word was with God. The word is Christ, he was there when everything was created. Colossians 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. So His views have not changed, but ours have. The easiest way to remember that God created all things is He created Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve…Bones in CHRIST…!!!
