Is God Angry With Us?

Christians are everywhere, or are they?

When I was growing up, a Christian was a Christian. Sure, you had cults here or there. You also had folks that belonged to one group or another, and you may have questioned if that group was really a Christian group. However, most folks identified themselves by their denomination. By that, you knew more or less what they believed.

Today, when people claim to be a Christian, I have to brace myself for what may follow. Sometimes, I am totally shocked by what I hear next.

One man told me that we are all going back to God. That is not what scripture says. Some don’t believe in hell. I guess they are with the man that says we are all going back to God. One man told me that we are gods with a little “g,” but he misinterpreted scripture. He pulled one word out of the passage and ran with it. It meant that we are magistrates. You can tell by the context, or you can look it up in the Greek.

While so many are busy ignoring scripture, and dismissing the consequences, they have also picked up things from other religions. Horoscopes are not scriptural. Palm reading is not scriptural. Blended faith services where the Koran is as acceptable as the Bible are not scriptural either.

One of the first steps of salvation is repentance, yet people walk in sin like it’s normal. Instead of having an abiding relationship with Jesus, many have an abiding relationship with darkness. When folks are that comfortable in sin, it begs the question if they were ever really saved.

And what about the children of God?

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.
Judges 10:6-7

I don’t believe in rewriting scripture and still calling it scripture, but let’s take another spin around that block for the sake of application. What if it said the following?

And the children of God did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served alcohol, and drugs, and the gods of astrology, and the gods of sex, and the gods of pornography, and the gods of the children of Satan, and the gods of self, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.

What if we read it that way, and we inserted modern day gods? We must ask ourselves, “Is the anger of the LORD hot against His children, and will he sell them into the hands of their enemies?”

There really is no difference in the gods of the children of Israel and the gods that come between the one true God and us. Think about it.

LIFE APPLICATION

Today’s challenge is to consider your life. Do you need to repent? Is there a god in your life that has come between you and the one true God? If you are a Christian, and you are still walking in sin, I encourage you to take a look at your life. Pray for God to show you the truth.
